There is an alarming new scam that Hawaii Island Police are warning the public of.
Scams involving phone calls to Hawaii residents have been popping up, where the caller is said to indicate that it is ‘Fire Safety Month,’ and that they need to come over to inspect your smoke alarms.
Police say that anyone receiving a similar call should not allow anyone to come over and gain entry into their residence.
This applies to phone calls and door-to-door salesmen soliciting the same type of service.
In an HPD media release, officials wrote, “It is highly likely that the ‘scammer’ is trying to enter the residence with the intentions of committing a crime.”
Anyone with information on the scams is asked to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311.
