ANA – Maine (anamaine.org) is the professional organization of registered nurses in Maine, and is a constituent member of the American Nurses Association. ANA-Maine supports the American Nurses Association’s Standards of Nursing Practice and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
ANA is the only full-service professional organization representing the nation’s entire registered nurse population of 3.6 million nurses. From the halls of Congress and federal agencies, to the boardrooms, hospitals, and health care facilities across the land, ANA is the strongest voice for the nursing profession.
A member of ANA – Maine has access to benefits and opportunities to participate at both the national (ANA) and state (ANA -Maine levels. ANA – Maine’s mission is to work for the improvement of health standards and the availability of health care services for all Maine people, to foster high standards for nursing, and to stimulate and promote the professional development of nurses.
Nurses work in increasingly diverse settings, models of care, and specialties including hospital, home and community health, public health, school health, education, numerous health care facilities and programs, politics, administration, industry, corporate, mission, and prison work, to name only a few. Each shares a common purpose: to care for people and advance excellence in nursing. Many Maine nurses join ANA-Maine to lend their professional voices to make a difference for our Maine nurses and our fellow nurses nationally.
We honor our registered nurses, and we take pride in the fact that for the past 16 years, the public in a national Gallup Poll has ranked nursing as the most honest and ethical profession.
It is only fitting that we take one week each year to celebrate our profession, our Maine nurses, and the vital roles nurses play in healthcare. This year’s theme for National Nurses Week, as declared by ANA is: “Nurses: Inspire, Innovate, Influence.”
