A drunk man shot a pregnant singer dead at a festive ceremony in Pakistan because she refused to dance while she performed this week.
Shocking footage shows two men throwing money at well known local singer Samina Samoon, who is also known as Samina Sindhu, at the event.
After persistent pleas, the 24-year-old eventually stands up to dance and is then shot by Tarique Ahmed Jatoi, who according to local media reports was drunk at the time.
The six-months-pregnant performer can be seen singing on a stage at the ceremony venue, but then crumples to the ground after being shot.
The incident occurred Kanga Village, near Larkana, in Sindh province.
The audience was initially left stunned but then guests can be seen coming forward to help the singer.
Samina was then taken to hospital in the town of Chandka but died there.
The dead singer’s husband said that she had been six months pregnant with their child.
‘Samina declined to dance because she was pregnant, her refusal enraged the accused who then killed her,’ Ary News quoted the singer’s husband Ashiq Ali as saying.
He demanded Jatoi be charged with the double murder for killing both his wife and unborn child.
According to the BBC, Jatoi says he was sitting in the front row and fired into the air while Samina on her third song but one of the bullets hit her.
The killing prompted a protest by several local artists demanding justice.
