AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) – There are 27,000 people aged 14 and 15 in Maine.
That’s according to the Maine Department of Labor.
Last year, more than 4,000 work permits were issued for 14 and 15 year-olds.
The Maine Labor Department wants to connect more teens with summer jobs.
Maine’s Labor Commissioner said jobs help teens build not only life skills but, character.
John Butera, Commissioner of the Department of Labor said, “Many things have changed in our society and our lives. I think we need to kinda rethink summer work, teens working and again it will help our economy but more importantly-it helps the kids. It helps the youth later on.“
We’re told there are plenty of jobs out there for them to apply to.
