A Maine man, who was reportedly armed and suicidal while driving erratically on Massachusetts roadways overnight, shot himself and later died at a New Bedford hospital.
Massachusetts State Police troopers were advised to be on the lookout for a red Ford Explorer with a Maine registration, State Police said.
The SUV was spotted on Route 24 in Raynham and the driver was all over the road.
“A short time later State Police learned that the driver of the Explorer, a 32-year-old man from Millinocket, Maine, was suicidal and armed, and had threatened to shoot anyone who tried to stop him,” State Police said.
Just before midnight, a trooper saw the SUV on Route 140 in Freetown. The trooper tried to stop the SUV, but the driver refused to stop. Troopers began a pursuit of the SUV.
State Police say the Maine man pulled over on Route 140 near Route 6 and shot himself. He was rushed to a New Bedford hospital, where he died.
