Police in Auburn, Maine said Friday night they have ended the search for a 5-year-old boy who fell into the Androscoggin River earlier this week.
“Diver search options for the river have been exhausted,” police wrote on Facebook. “Warden Service will continue to maintain a presence on the river in the form of boat patrols and aircraft patrols as weather permits.”
According to another post from police, officials had deployed boats, divers, and a sonar unit earlier on Friday. Law enforcement also worked with Brookfield Renewable Energy to try to “control and slow the river current as much as possible.”
The boy and his 9-year-old brother fell into the water Tuesday night. Firefighters rescued the 9-year-old, who was hospitalized and is in stable condition at Maine Medical Center, according to police.
