A New Hampshire man authorities allege tried to flee to Mexico after strangling his ex-fiancee in her Massachusetts home has been held without bail.
Brian Chevalier, of Merrimack, New Hampshire, spoke only to say “not guilty” to a first-degree murder charge at his arraignment Thursday in Salem Superior Court. His attorney did not comment.
Prosecutors say the 52-year-old Chevalier killed Wendi Rose Davidson in her North Andover home in April.
The 49-year-old Davidson’s family has said the couple was engaged, but Davidson had broken it off.
Chevalier was apprehended at the California-Mexico border several days later and has been held in California during rendition proceedings.
Davidson was killed just four months after Chevalier was paroled from New Hampshire State Prison after serving 14 years for kidnapping a former girlfriend.
