Trump Advisor Urges Britain to Prioritize US Trade

Stephen Moore, a senior adviser to President-elect Donald Trump, has recommended that Britain focus on aligning its trade relations with the U.S. instead of strengthening ties with the EU. He criticized the EU’s “socialist model” and suggested the U.S. may be less inclined to pursue a free trade deal if Britain prioritizes the EU.

The UK government has ruled out rejoining the EU’s single market or customs union, but Prime Minister Keir Starmer has aimed to improve trade and diplomatic ties with the bloc. Starmer seeks a balanced approach to both the U.S. and EU.

Finance minister Rachel Reeves also stressed the need for Britain to “reset” its relationship with the EU and showed interest in working with Trump to enhance trade relations with the U.S.

Despite efforts to rebuild ties with the EU, there is concern over the impact of Trump’s presidency, especially the possibility of U.S. tariffs on British goods. This is influencing economic strategies worldwide.

Global policymakers, including those in the UK, are closely evaluating the implications of Trump’s victory and the potential for higher tariffs, which could affect trade between Britain and the U.S.
