China’s ambassador, Xie Feng, expressed that China seeks a partnership with the U.S. and clarified it doesn’t aim to surpass or replace the U.S. He stressed strengthening dialogue between the two nations.

Ahead of Trump’s return to office, China hopes to reset relations. Though Trump’s tariffs remain a concern, China believes they could alienate U.S. allies, offering China an opportunity to expand its influence.

President Xi Jinping called for rejecting protectionism and supporting economic globalization. While China advocates for global cooperation, analysts suggest its counterbalance to Trump’s U.S. no longer holds the same appeal.

Xie emphasized the potential for Sino-U.S. cooperation in trade, agriculture, energy, AI, and public health. He highlighted the need for dialogue to address both nations’ concerns and find solutions on equal terms.

Xie identified Taiwan as the main flashpoint in U.S.-China tensions, reiterating China’s claim over Taiwan, which is rejected by Taipei, and warning against separatist movements that could lead to conflict.
